How to Add a Copyright Year to Your Website’s Footer with Divi
March 1, 2022

Hello everyone, today we’re gonna learn how to add a Copyright Year to your website’s footer with Divi! And not only that, it automatically updates, so you don’t have to change it every time the year changes.

So without wasting any time, let’s get into it!

From your WordPress dashboard, hover over Divi at the bottom-left of your WordPress dashboard, and click Theme Builder.

Next, while you’re in the Theme Builder, click on Add Global Footer, and click Build Global Footer.

Once you’re in the visual builder of Divi’s theme builder, click the green “+” icon and choose the single row. After that, add the text module.

Once you’ve added the text module, remove all the text in the text box and click the Dynamic Content icon. After clicking the icon – out of all the options you see, choose Current Date.

In the Current Date settings, here’s what it should look like:

Copy everything in the quotations, including the spaces shown at the end and beginning.

Before: “Copyright © Name Here “

After: ” | All Rights Reserved”

Date Format: Set to Custom

Custom Date Format: Type in “Y

After applying the settings, click the checkbox to save the changes.

And it will look like this: Copyright © Name Here 2022 | All Rights Reserved

Now let’s customize the look of our text. You can customize your Copyright Year the way you want – but if you’d like to follow along, that’s still alright!

SO!… Navigate to Design, and click Text – In the text settings, change the Text Font to Roboto, and the Font Weight to Bold. For the Text Color, change it to #5e5e5e

Lastly, change the Text Size to 15px, then click the checkbox again to save the changes!

Hover over the section till you see a blue box appear, like this:

When the blue box appears, click the cog icon, and click Background. In the background settings, put in the hex code #252525 – next, navigate to Design, and click Spacing. From there, put 0px on top and bottom padding.

After that, click the checkbox once more to save the change, and click Save at the bottom right. (If you can’t see it, click the purple circle with 3 dots located in the middle of your screen at the bottom)

Once you’ve clicked Save, the checkmark will pop up on the Save button, you can click the “x” at the top-right of your screen. Finally, at the left, click Save Changes, and you’re done!

Then, like we usually do, go visit our website to see the change by scrolling at the very bottom of your website, and you should see your Copyright Year!

Now that you have a Copyright Year on your website’s footer – what makes it so important?…

Well, copyrights can protect your work from infringement by others – and it also establishes that all the content on the website belongs to YOU and is not for public use.

When Copyrights include the date, it helps the reader determine the restrictions on the work since protections last for only a period from the original copyright date.
